Some folks are considering patents on plotlines? What on earth would be the purpose of copyright then? And why is the fact that Amazon patented 1-click justification for this idea. They seem like very different beasts to me.
First, it would take no "revamping" of the patent system to allow patenting of fictional storylines. Under binding case law, storylines are probably already patentable. Second, take a look at www.plotpatents.com/legal_analysis.htm for an explanation -- including the moral justification -- for storyline patents. If you have a rebuttal more sophisticated than "beyond the point of ridiculousness," I'd be interested to hear it. Regards, Andrew Knight
